An excellent leisure option for those who want to get to know the beauties of Altamira is to enjoy its river beaches during a weekend's time. Three areas have been carefully structured by Norte Energia on the banks of the Xingu River and are fit for those who want to cool off in the river or play sports.

The Orla, Massanori and Assurini beaches are a result of the River Beach Characterization Survey, carried out by the Company, which identified potential beach spots upstream and downstream from downtown Altamira, taking into account the flow of the Xingu River. The survey based the Beach and Leisure Venue Recomposition Project, which established the areas that should be recomposed to become permanent.
The Orla beach, with over 10,000 sq. meters, is the most popular in the city. It is located on Avenida João Pessoa, known as Rua do Cais, in the Catedral neighborhood, only a few meters from the city center. It is of easy access whether on foot, by public transport or by car. Therefore, it is the stretch more commonly chosen by residents and visitors to practice sports.

A little further away from the downtown area, we find Massanori and Assurini beaches. Access to the former is via an eight-kilometer road, from the right margin of the Transamazônica Highway, heading in the Altamira-Belo Monte direction, past the Agricultural Exhibition Park, in the Alberto Soares neighborhood.

Visitors may also reach Massanori and Assurini beaches by boat, departing from the following locations: Porto 6, Porto do Pepino, Porto da Praia, Porto da Funai, Porto dos Carroceiros and Porto da Balsa. Ticket prices vary.  Ferries depart on the hour, between 6 am and 6 pm, and tickets are free for those who do not mind standing during the trip. The "voadeira" ferry costs between R$ 15 and R$ 40. Boats serving conventional lines leave during business hours, but can be chartered for night tours.
