Traditional People

The evolution of the Belo Monte HPP project, provided by more than 35 years of studies, ensured the totality of the 12 territories - 1 area and 11 indigenous lands - occupied by the indigenous populations of the Xingu medium, ensuring that no centimeter of the more than 5 million hectares occupied by 9 ethnic groups was flooded by the reservoirs of the Plant. 


In addition, the Basic Indigenous Environmental Component Project (PBA-CI) has been guaranteeing fundamental rights, promoting the quality of life and integrity of some 4,000 indigenous people with actions that strengthen ethnic, cultural and traditional activities with the promotion of security territorial, environmental, cultural and food. And they are helping to overcome the historical difficulties of these populations.


The execution of the 27 projects that integrate the PBA-CI aims at that the traditional communities can have available tools that potentiate their sustainable development, acquiring better knowledge about the areas they occupy and on more efficient ways for their preservation of their culture and environment.
